Privacy Policy

1. Introduction

Welcome to Open Study Deck ("we", "our", "us"). We are committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy details how we handle information in our multi-page study studio. Unlike traditional software-as-a-service platforms, Open Study Deck is a serverless application built with a privacy-first, zero-database architecture.

2. No Personal Data Collection

We do not operate backend databases, nor do we run user signups or tracking accounts. We collect exactly zero personal identifiable information (PII). You do not need to register, log in, or input your email to access any of our study tools.

3. API Key & Local Storage Security

Open Study Deck operates fully under the Bring Your Own Key (BYOK) model. When you configure your Google Gemini API Key:

  • The key is saved locally inside your browser's client-side storage (localStorage).
  • The key is never transmitted to our servers or stored in any cloud database.
  • Your key is used exclusively to sign and authorize requests directly from your browser to the official Google Gemini API endpoints.

4. Local Files and Image Processing

When you drag and drop notes, textbook screenshots, or photo documents to generate study guides:

  • Your source images and documents are processed locally inside your browser's viewport.
  • The files are sent over secure encrypted HTTPS connections directly to the Google Gemini API to run text extraction and analysis.
  • No files are uploaded or stored on our servers. Your study files never leave your client environment except to travel directly to Google.

5. Data Retention & Cleardown

Your study decks and history are stored locally in your browser cache. You have absolute sovereignty over this data. You can completely erase your local decks, generated card summaries, and your saved API key at any time by clicking "Clear Key" or "Clear All Decks" in the Settings area of the landing dashboard.

6. Third-Party Services

Our application interfaces with the following third parties:

  • Google Gemini API: Processes your uploaded content and keys to generate study decks. Their usage is governed by Google AI Studio Terms of Service.
  • FormSubmit: Used on our Contact page to forward feedback emails to the developer.
